Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1894
Manufactured in 1904, this extremely rare Model 1894 Carbine features a special order nickel finished receiver and deluxe nicely figured checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock. According to Madis' book "The Winchester Book page 431 only 1 of every approximately 950 Model 1894s had any nickel components. Even rarer is the fact that research done by the staff at the Cody Firearms Museum, stated on the factory letter indicates that this carbine and number 169767, which had a full nickel finish, were the only two Model 1894s manufactured with nickel components and the pistol grip stock, making this carbine an extremely rare variation. The accompanying factory letter verifies the carbine configuration, 30 caliber, checkered stock with pistol grip, nickel receiver, that it was received in the warehouse on October 1, 1904 and shipped on order number 246783, October 4, 1904. As noted above the letter also includes the results of the staffs research in reference to the nickel plating and pistol grip stock configuration. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/patent date ahead of the rear sight and "30 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1894/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK" and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. Pinned blade front and folding ladder carbine rear sights, blue saddle ring and stud mounted on the left rear of the receiver, casehardened hammer and trigger, and blue steel carbine buttplate.
