Rare Documented Gold and Nickel-Plated Factory Engraved Colt Model 1877 Etched Panel Lightning Double Action Revolver with Pearl Grips

Factory engraved combination finish Colt Model 1877 DA revolver with pearl grips manufactured in 1886. The revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter that describes the features as: Caliber: .41/c, Barrel Length: 4 1/2", Finish: Nickel with gold cylinder, Type of Stocks: Pearl and Factory Engraved: Yes. The letter states this revolver was shipped to Pribyl Brothers in Chicago on September 29, 1886. The revolver has a nickel-plated barrel, ejector housing, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The cylinder is gold plated. The trigger and back of the hammer are fire blue. The revolver is fitted with two-piece pearl bird's head grips. The ejector rod has a bullseye head and the hammer has bordered knurling on the spur. The top of the barrel is roll stamped with the legend "COLT'S PT. M.F.G. Co/HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.". "COLT D.A. 41" is etched in an oval panel on the left side of the barrel. The Colt three line, three patent dates roll stamped on the left side of the frame. ".41 CAL." is stamped on the left rear trigger guard bow. The serial number "57427" is located on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The revolver is factory engraved with American style scrollwork on a punch dot background and zig-zag double line and punch dot borders. The engraving was probably executed by Master Engraver Cuno A. Helfricht or his shop. Colt revolvers with a combination nickel and gold plated finishes are rare.

Finish: nickel/gold plated
Grips: mother of pearl

Very fine. The revolver retains 80% of the original nickel plated finish with some scattered flaking on the trigger guard, grip strap and loading gate. The cylinder has been replated and retains about 50% of the gold plated finish in the flutes and protected areas. The hammer and trigger have 50% of the fire blue finish remaining. The "COLT D.A. 41" etching on the left side of the barrel is light, while the other markings are sharp. The engraving is deep and crisp. The pearl grips are excellent. This is a very fine example of a factory engraved combination finish Colt Model 1877 Lightning DA revolver.
