Rare and Desirable Semi-Deluxe Winchester Model 92 Smoothbore Carbine, #992168, barrel is marked ''.44 WCF'' and neatly factory hand stamped ''Smooth Bore'', 20'' blue barrel and mag tube, factory nickel receiver and buttplate, with smooth pistol-grip stock. Mfg'd approx. 1928. Carbine additionally features a blue hammer and trigger, case-hardened lever, nickel bolt and extractor, blue screws, and hard rubber Winchester marked pistol grip cap, with standard late Carbine sights. As production ceased for the Model 92 in 1931, this could one of the very last smoothbores ever produced. In addition, Madis calls out that only 825 Model 92s out of approx. 1 million had any plating at all. Pistol-grip Carbines are practically a non-statistic. That combined with the smoothbore feature makes for one of the rarest non-engraved Winchester Model 92s produced. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 98%+ original lightly toning nickel finish to frame with only the slightest we!
ar in actioning areas. Stock fits impeccably and retains approx. 98% original varnish with light scuffs and minor scratches. Barrel and mag tube show the slightest micro-scratching to high edges. Domes of blue receiver screws with light thinning to finish. Action is tight, bore is smooth and bright. The simple fact that Winchester did not produce an actual ''Smooth Bore'' die to roll stamp the barrels is an excellent indicator of just how rare this specimen is. Est.: $12,000-$18,000.
