This is an exceptionally nice example of a Swiss Commercial Luger with the very desirable "Abercrombie and Fitch Co." markings. These early Swiss commercial Lugers were originally intended for sale in Switzerland, however with the huge early demand in the U.S. for Luger pistols in the 1907-1915 time frame, DWM diverted some production from their Swiss contract through their U.S. agent to the Abercrombie & Fitch Co. of New York. At this time, the Abercrombie and Fitch Co. in New York was probably the largest retailer of outdoor sporting goods and equipment in the U.S. The company was founded in 1892 and survived until 1977 when it went into bankruptcy and was sold off. This scarce Luger has the early style short frame with the 1906 style grip safety, no stock lug and is correctly marked "GELADEN" on the extractor, with the first pattern unaltered safety that has the polished lower safety area on the frame. The chamber is marked with the standard "Swiss Cross in A Sunburst" which indicates a commercial contract Luger and the front toggle has the DWM markings. The top of the barrel is roll marked "MADE IN SWITZERLAND/ABERCROMBIE & FITCH Co NEW YORK". These markings are even harder to obtain than the "A.F. Stoeger" marked Luger pistols. It is correctly numbered in the commercial manner, with only the front of the frame stamped with the serial number "2879i", and with no other visible serial numbers or visible commercial proofmarks. The Luger is fitted with an unmarked nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base. The pistol has a rust blue finish with straw colored small components and checkered walnut grips. The holster that accompanies this rare Luger is one of the rare very early hand tooled holsters made by the "Heiser" Company in Denver Colorado that was sold through and marked "Abercrombie & Fitch" on the back. The hand tooled front has a traditional floral pattern that was used by the company on many Single Action Army style holsters from the 1880-1920s. The back of the holster has the noted large circular stamp of the Abercrombie & Fitch Company, while the lower portion is stamped, "HEISER/DENVER/1722" with their circular intertwined three "HHH" logo in between.

Excellent like new condition with 99% original blue finish with no visible wear marks and 99% of the straw colors on the small parts. The grips are also excellent with nice sharp distinct checkering on both sides and only minor handling marks. The holster matches the pistol in that it looks and feels like new showing only minor scratches on the inside of the holster from the front sight. The markings are clear and sharp and the hand tooling is excellent. A super nice all original and very rare Abercrombie & Fitch Commercial Luger rig.
