Northern Sung period, nicely potted with a good cover, the glaze goes down to the smooth base and the spout is perfect. A stylized Phoenix adorns each side and the lower region is lappet-paneled with 8 designs in low relief. Color is greyish white and the only distraction is some brownish staining on the upper rim and spout. Rare and significant, a "documentary" Dingyao low dish of 7-1/8" with minimal decoration and similar clay body and base, was listed in a Sotheby's N.Y. Sept.7, 2003 auction at $80,000.-100,000..
