Ratto, Rodolfo. VENDITE A PREZZO FISSO. Bound volume of 23 numbered fixed-price catalogues. Milano, 1931-39. 4to, later black cloth-backed boards; red spine labels, gilt; original printed wraps bound in. [Online description truncated: see printed or PDF catalogue for full description.] Binding a little weak. One or two catalogues with some spotting; most catalogues essentially fine. A complete set of this series of rarely offered fixed-price catalogues, including Ratto’s significant catalogue of Hadrian and his family, a substantial catalogue of Palestinian coins, three Monete romane catalogues, three Monete greche catalogues, one mixed ancient catalogue, three catalogues of Papal coins, and no fewer than eleven catalogues of Italian coins of various eras and mints. Ratto had issued at least two earlier catalogues in a fixed-price format, but he considered the present catalogues to be a series of their own and, beginning with the fourth one, began numbering them. Every one of them includes fine collotype plates, making them as useful as his auction catalogues of the period. A lot of seven of these catalogues was included in the Kreindler sale, where it brought $400. Rarely offered; the first complete run we recall seeing.
