Found in the 200 to 2,000 serial number range, this is a rare example of a first type Colt Third Model Derringer of the later production series with the relief bolster through which the barrel screw is fitted on the underside of the frame. Later production first type derringers have the large "-COLT-" in italics stamped on top of the barrel as this example features. The hammer correctly has a high spur. Blue barrel and silver plated brass frame with smooth varnished grips numbered to the gun.

Condition: Very good plus. The barrel retains traces of bright original blue finish in the protected areas with the balance a mottled gray patina. The frame retains 30% of original silver plating in and around the protected areas with the exposed brass having an untouched aged patina. The grips are very good with high edge wear and some minor handling marks. There is a small missing chip on the left panel at the bottom. Action needs some work but functions.
