Rare Colt Detective Special, factory engraved, one of only two engraved by the factory before the Second World War. The pistol was presented to Rudy Tetchen from the famous exhibition shooters Ad and Plinky Topperwein. The backstrap was engraved in San Antonio prior to its presentation. Rudy Tetchen was described in his lifetime as the best all-around shotgunner in the world and the Topperweins as the world’s greatest shooting team. Factory confirms caliber, barrel length, factory “B” engraved, pearl grips, blue finish, shipped to Abercrombie & Fitch, New York NY. July 17th 1939, one gun in shipment. Factory order #8519. Serial #457447.The pistol remains in fine to excellent original condition with 98-99% original blue, fi pearl grips, just some minor handling and slight use. With original cardboard box in somewhat poor condition. Pictured in the book Colt Engraving, page 415, and several authors state this is the rarest factory engraved prewar model double-action revolver. Est: $12,500 - $25,000

Little John's will pay for packing and materials. Buyer pays actual costs of shipping and insurance. All International purchases will be sent to an exporter for shipment to foreign countries.
