Extremely rare and fine quality 'ghahverokh' design Persian Bakhtiari rug. Made of the finest quality baby lamb's wool pile on cotton foundation, all natural vegetable dye, beautiful earth toned colors were used in creating this extremely detailed hand woven rug. With a highly detailed floral pattern (with elegant and long curvilinear tendrils) on a dark earth toned brown background; absolutely captivating large dual headed multi layered multi colored star shaped floral designed centerpiece medallion, deeply detailed crowned corners and an intricate floral trim. An amazing amount of time was spend on making this fascinating and thoroughly detailed authentic Persian Bakhtiari, with very small and tight knots. Country of origin: Iran. About Bakhtiari rugs: antique/semi antique Bakhtiari carpets, produced in the Zagros mountains of Iran, are one of the few types that can encompass nomadic tribal as well as urban Persian design. Many Bakhtiaris are in fact tribal pieces that rely upon a repertoire of abstract geometric and animal motives. But Bakhtiari weavers are also acclaimed for their ability to produce sophisticated medallion allover, and garden designs of classical Persian inspiration, although with an added vitality and boldness. The wool quality and rich color of Bakhtiari antique/semi antique rugs are also notable, whether they utilize an urban or more tribal design idiom. Size 12.2 X 9.8 feet.
