Rare Color Version of 1 1/4 Bryan Shaking Hands Gorgeous Full-Color Version of the Classic 1 1/4 B
Gorgeous Full-Color Version of the Classic 1 1/4" Button Picturing William Jennings Bryan Shaking Hands With an American Laborer. One of the rarest and most sought-after 1896 designs, it is usually seen in sepia tones, and comes in both 1 1/4" and 1 3/4" sizes. The only other example we can recall seeing in color was sold at a live American Political Items Collectors auction in the early 1990s where, as we recall, it fetched around $4000 after a bidding duel between two of the hobby's most sophisticated celluloid collectors. This is the plate example from the original 1896-1972 Hake book (page 45, number 265). Considering the unlikelihood of that other example coming onto the market in the foreseeable future, this is a very special opportunity. The condition is basically choice, with perfect centering (we have seen a few off-center examples of the sepia version). For strictest accuracy, we note a hint of totally trivial, very light foxing on the rim, not even close to being visible from the front.
