Made by J.B. Allere of Chicago. With "J.B.A." marked on left side of 35" blade, partially seen on the right side is the correct "M" marking. Pommel brass is marked "AGM", by Alfred G. Manning, who inspected finished swords from Allere during 1863, the only year they made them. Overall length is 41.25". Several other J.B. Allere examples have been seen at auction with the black scabbard. Cutlass is missing wire wrap fish-skin, an overall scarce Civil War Wrist-breaker Cutlass.
