Rare Civil War Ball Repeating Metallic Cartridge Carbine, NVSN, .50 RF cal., 20.5" round barrel with simple carbine sights; receiver marked "E.G. Lamson & Co./Windsor, VT/U.S./Ball's Patent./June 23, 1863/Mar. 15, 1864" has back-action lock, left-side sling mount and ring, serpentine trigger guard/operating lever; 16" forestock of oil-finished walnut has internal 7-shot cartridge magazine, single clamping band, button-tip ramrod, matching buttstock with carbine buttplate. Mfg'd 1864-65, in just 1,002 qty. Condition is good retaining traces of darkened blue under brown discoloration and beginning light rust. Receiver shows mottled case colors under light etching, sharp edges and markings. Stocks are sound showing scattered light marks, shallow chips at band, re-shaping at left butt, faint inspector's cartouche at left wrist. Action is crisp, bright bore shows light etching, sharp rifling. Will greatly benefit from a sympathetic cleaning. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (Antique)
