1921 - Accompanied by an original 1978 ANACS photoproof submitted by Joseph L. Lepczyk, No. E-6202-B. "Canada 1921 50c-Rim Clip. In our opinion this is a genuine original coin as described."

This coin was purchased shortly after its certification and has resided in an old time collection since. Lightly cleaned at one time, conservatively grading very fine in our opinion.

The "rim clip" could be a rim bruise but overall eye appeal is not compromised.

The "King of Canadian Coins" has an estimated census of 75 surviving specimens, many having been issued in specimen and mint sets. The post World War I recession caused agricultural prices to plummet, and the demand for coinage fell. The 1921 half dollars sat in the Ottawa Mint until demand resumed In 1929. The Master of the Ottawa mint, fearing the release of nearly ten year old coins would be suspect, melted most 1920 and 1921 coins and issued 1929 coins. It is estimated fewer than 100 pieces from 1921 are known to exist. Most of these survived from souvenir sets sold to Mint visitors.
