Manufacturer: C.B. Allen Model: Cochran Turret
Manufactured by C.B. Allen of Springfield, Massachusetts in the late 1830s with a total production of slightly over 200 of all three types. This example is one of approximately 50 Third Models manufactured. The Third Model can be distinguished by the lack of a trigger guard and the lower profile arched hammer mounted ahead of the trigger, which is the same as on the Cochran pistol. The six and three line markings on the top strap are only partially visible and the serial number is marked on the left front of the frame. Blade front and adjustable rear sights (adjuster absent), full solid under rib with iron tipped wooden ramrod and nine shot 40 caliber turret. Mounted with a smooth varnished straight grip walnut stock. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

Serial Number: 196
Condition:
Fair as refurbished overall. The metal surfaces have an artificial grayish brown patina. There is some scattered minor pitting on the barrel and under rib, and heavier pitting on the rewelded top strap and turret. The modern replacement stock has a break repair at the receiver and has been refinished. The stock remains solid and in good condition with a few minor dents and scratches. The action needs work, occasionally the turret difficult to rotate.
