Rare British Awarded Canada General Service Medal with Two Clasps

Estimate: $2000 - 3000
This is a rare example of a British awarded Canada General Service Medal (Canada 1866-70) with 2 clasps. This medal was not authorized until 30 years after the event. The medal was issued by the Canadian government to British and Canadian forces who took part in operations to put down the Fenian raids of 1866 and 1870 and the Red River rebellion also in 1870. Of the 16,100 medal awarded, 15,000 went to local forces making British awarded medals such as this example rare. Even rarer are British awarded medals with two clasps such as this medal. The medal was awarded to Pte. W. Weles of the 1st Battalion 60th, or the King's Royal Rifle Corps. The rare two clasps are Red River 1870 and Fenian Raid 1870. It has the correct ribbon with three equal stripes of orange-red, white and orange-red.
