Rare Blue Finish Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army Revolver

Estimate: $14000 - 22500
Also known as the Improved Army or Frontier Army, the Model 1875 Revolver was manufactured from 1875 to 1889 with this example having the scarce factory blue finish. The hammer is casehardened with knurled spur. Seldom are these Remington Model 1875's found in blue finish as most were nickel plated. The top of the barrel is marked "E. REMINGTON & SON, ILION, N.Y. U.S.A." and the left side of the frame on the front flat is marked "44" for the caliber. The three digit serial number is stamped on the left side of the frame under the grip. The revolver is fitted with nicely figured two piece varnished grips, which are numbered to the gun. The Model 1875 was Remington's attempt to compete with the Colt Single Action Army revolver. Remington lacked the advantage of Colt's early start in government sales. Considerable mystery still surrounds this model as there are no known sales to the U.S. military.
