Benjamin Franklin Printed February 28, 1746 Delaware Issue Delaware Note & Near Twin To The Newman Plate
Delaware. February 28, 1746. Twenty Shillings. Plate A. “Printed by B. FRANKLIN” Issue. “British Lion” vignette. Conservation. Fine.
Fr. DE-30. This rare early Benjamin Franklin printed Delaware issue note is a very near twin in its appearance and quality to the Newman Plate illustration that has been used for many editions and now seen on page 121 in the current. Both notes show similar print characteristics and equal circulation. One signature is faded while Hugh Durborrow and John Clowes are readable. The date and text are fully readable and quite sharp for this issue. There is some conservation to remove prior mounting from the reverse edges and deft sealed centerfold edge splits. Overall, this note is vastly superior for this 1746 Franklin issue as indicated by the Newman plate note comparison. It has a clean, evenly circulated appearance with the important legend “Printed by B. FRANKLIN” very clear.
