Rare Autographs of John Lee Hooker & Dave Berry
Rare Autographs of John Lee Hooker & Dave Berry - John Lee Hooker was considered to be one of the greatest blues singers, songwriters and guitarists of all time. Born in complete poverty in Mississippi, he slowly found fame playing a "new fangled" electric guitar in a style no one ever heard before, which he coined as the "Delta Blues". He made "talking blues" famous as well, the predecessor to modern RAP. His very unique and toe-tapping addictive fast-based boggie style influenced literally hundreds of artists, singers and musicians to follow, including Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, Mick Jagger and Peter Townshed, to name just a few. He was feted with dozens of awards and honors, including a Grammy. Perhaps he is now best known to a new generation for his unforgettable performance in the hit feature film "The Blues Brothers" (1980). John Belushi has said that Hooker was the inspiration for the original idea of "The Blues Brothers" act in both their look and musical styling, which he and Dan Akyroyd created on Saturday Night Live, as well as for the feature film. This is an extremely rare autograph of John Lee Hooker. Rare because Hooker was basically functionally illiterate, and did not sign autographs. However, in 1963 there was a persistent 15 year old school girl, named Teresa Doherty, who approached him in England. She had a passion for Rock and Blues, and persuaded Hooker to sign her autograph book, patiently guiding him through each painstakingly written letter. The final autograph is a testament to Hooker's desire to please this adoring fan. It a heartwarming and cherished rare collectable of one of the greatest artist in Blues Music history! On the reserve side of the page is an equally rare autograph from Dave Berry, the popular British pop singer and teen idol of the 1960s. He is best remembered for "This Strange Effect" and "I'm Going To Take You There, as well as "The Crying Game" and perhaps his biggest hits "Little Things", and "This Strange Effect". He was extremely private, to the point where he would appear out in public completely hidden by the oversize upturned collar of his ever present leather jacket and we would hide behind sets when performing on stage or TV. Being such a recluse he was not known to grant interviews or sign autographs. This rare autograph is signed "To Terrie, Love Dave Berry". Both autographs come with a detailed Letter of Provenience from Teresa Doherty herself. Autograph page is 4.5"x4".
