Rare Ancient Knife with Fancy Pierced Chiseled Blade and Attractive Three Dimensional Grip Design
Blade is 6 1/4" long and 1 1/2" wide at the ricasso, forming a fingerguard, with filework along the spine, a pair of smooth brass plates secured to the ricasso, and a 3 1/2" long, .8" wide cut-through design of a cross in the center of the blade. The tang is decorated with a pair of engraved brass ball accents, and surrounded by the grip, which is cut-through brass with windows exposing the tang decorations, alternating with three sections of windows with 4 or 5 notched slats, showing the tang underneath, and a pommel nut similar to the tang decorations. The combination of tang and grip accents gives the appearance of a single piece elaborately cut through. Unsure of age, but estimate at least 600-800 years old. OAL: 10 1/2"
