Rare American flintlock dueling pistol signed “J. Resor, Cincinnati” on barrel. And “Resor” on lock. Jacob Resor worked in Cincinnati, Ohio and this pistol is circa approx. 1816 when Cincinnati was on the edge of the Western frontier and this fin maker was particularly noted for his Kentucky rifles. Refer The Code of Honor: Dueling in America by Ellen N. Murry, which features the collection of Col. Orbelo, page 32. The pistol measures approx. 16-1/4” overall with 10-1/2” medium weight octagon barrel of approx. .54 caliber smooth bore. The pistol is half stocked with plain brass triggerguard and ferrule. No butt cap or side plate. The trigger guard is simply American engraved with a daisy. The metal surfaces remain in good to very good original condition showing a grey to brown patina finish, light to moderate scattered erosion and pinprick pitting, some slightly heavier pitting at the firing area and a few spots scattered at the barrel. The barrel is inlaid with silver where it is beautifully engraved [[research signature]] The lock is in its original flintlock configuration with hammer and small parts.
