Rare American Bowie by J. Todt, San Francisco. Ricasso is stamped “J. Todt / S. F.” Approx. 12-5/8” overall with 7-7/8” clip blade with false edge. 3-1/16” stock. Blade shows a full tip and very light sharpening to the edge with satin finish. Small areas of discoloration. Hilt shows elk stag scales with three brass rivets and has been coated with shellac or lacquer. The tang tapers from the iron crossguard to the pommel. Accompanied by original tooled sheath with belt loop. Sheath shows two small tears to the front leather near the crossguard. Fine condition overall. Illustrated on page 141 of The Knifemakers of Old San Francisco book by Bernie Lavine. Circa 1880’s to 1890’s. Hugh Hayes Collection. Est. $2,500 - $5,000
