Made by The American Art Works Company of Coshocton, Ohio. This 19 inch by 13 inch tin sign is advertising stoneware food containers with a boy and dog in a kitchen getting a donut out of one of the containers and reads "STONEWARE/THE BEST FOOD/CONTAINER" at the top and "WE SELL ALL SIZES" on the bottom. The backing is cardboard with a folding stand. The back is stamped with The American Art Works cleaning instructions. The rear lower edge of the tin is marked "AMERICAN ART WORKS COSHOCTON, OHIO". The specialty advertising industry started in Coshocton, Ohio in January of 1884, for many years was the nations leading producer of advertising art in the nation, shipping their product worldwide. In the early 1900s Coshocton was second only to New York City in the size of its artist colony. Advertising from Coshocton is on display throughout the country periodically.

Condition: Very good. Almost all of the original paint remains and the colors are bright and vivid. The lower left hand corner has a few minor dents and there is some minor scattered oxidation. The cardboard backing is 95% intact with a 1 3/4 inches by 1 inch piece absent in the upper left hand corner and there is some staining on the edges. A nice example of an early American advertising tin sign.
