Featured in this lot is this Rare 19th Century Neoclassical hand-carved Antique wood newel. The lower half is carved on three sides while the upper half is carved on all four sides. The figurine depicts a Greek mythological male presumably holding the staircase above his head. This newel has intricate detailing of the man's face, moustache, beard and curly hair along with the lower floral ornamentation.
The dark stain finish newel is in very good overall condition, the finished sides have very slight scuffing, the rear side has saw tooth hardware for wall hanging the newel, both the top and bottom are flat from when this was attached to a staircase. Rear has small holes from where it was attached to the staircase. Measurements are 39.25"L x 10.25"W x 7.25"D
