Academy Award nomination certificate for the famous 1939 western ''Stagecoach''. Certificate nominates acclaimed film editor Dorothy Spencer for her impeccable editing work on ''Stagecoach,'' directed by John Ford and starring a melange of legends, including John Wayne, Claire Trevor, Andy Devine and John Carradine. Though Spencer lost to the ''Gone With the Wind'' editor during the 12th annual awards ceremony, her career as a noted film editor continued to be a success. At center is a gilt insignia of the iconic Oscar knight standing in front of a film reel in a pose that suggests Leonardo da Vinci's ''Vitruvian Man''. Signed by the Academy president Walter Wanger and secretary with an official gilt stamp. Next to stamp is John Ford's name in an unknown hand. Measures 10'' x 11.5''. Toning and tape strips to verso edges, else near fine.
