WW1 World War One Rare and original VIMY RIDGE grouping. 3 artifacts include:
1) a large section of cloth cut from the tail section of a Sopwith Triplane that was shot down and crashed near the summit of Vimy Ridge by L.A. Hamilton of the 21st Battn CEF who was with the stretcher party rescuing the downed pilot.
2) Hamilton's identity disc dog tag
3) a large period photograph of a pilot during a flight taking a picture of an aircraft below- an interesting original period photograph in its own right

The pilot, who survived his injuries, was a Canadian serving with the Royal Naval Air Service 8 Squadron : FLt D. Mitchell Shields. He was engaged and shot down by Ltn Kurt von Doring of Jasta 4 on 01 May 1917.
All 3 men survive the war and von Doring attains the rank of Lientenant General in the Luftwaffe in1941. A full research archive is included with the grouping. Research materials include extracts and details of the action and rescue from " Canadians in the Royal Naval Air Service 1914-1918" by Collishaw & Company and a copy of Hamilton's full service record.
All items have been conservation framed by a professional to a museum standard.
