Rare 1916 Coca-Cola Cardboard Advertising Sign
Rare 1916 Coca-Cola Cardboard Advertising Sign With Swastika Motif. The sign measures 14" x 11" and features a border of green swastikas surrounding two red Coca-Cola bottles. The accompanying text reads: "DRINK A BOTTLE OF Coca-Cola AND BE LUCKY Look under the cork and you may find a coupon calling for a cash premium from 5¢ to $1.00 ASK THE DEALER FOR DETAILS". Coca-Cola used the swastika again in 1925 when it introduced a watch fob in that design. The swastika was widely used as a symbol of good luck or good fortune prior to the Second World War. The sign has several spots of age discoloration, several chips and tears to the perimeter (mainly along the bottom), and two large sections of the bottom corners are missing, else this uncommon poster is in good condition. Long aknowledged by collectors as one of the toughest Coke signes to find.
As a wonderful bonus to this rare sign the reverse features original watercolor artwork by Jeannette Hale for a hamburger stand called "Herold's" with the delightful slogan "WE MAKE 'EM FAT AT Herold's". The artwork is the perfect addition to the sign and together they are wonderfully evocative of the period.

Shipping: Small Flat (view shipping information)
