Featured in this lot is a Rare 1872 Montana Territory Map on Board, framed. "Map of the Territory of Montana to accompany the report of the Surveyor General, 1872". This is an important early map of Montana, showing proposed rail lines, various Native American Reservations, Yellowstone National Park, and the mining camps. It was made at a time when the map was necessary for land planning purposes. An amazing piece of Montana and Western US history. Author unknown. A copy of this map would have been included in the annual report of the Surveyor General. The scale is 1 inch to 12 miles, legend is located at the bottom left and details extent of public land surveys, towns, roads, military reservations, proposed and existing railroad tracks, county and Indian reservation boundaries. The navigable rivers of the Missouri and Yellowstone are highlighted along with their major tributaries. Also includes rivers, creeks and streams. Visible map measures 38.25"W x 52.5"L, custom wood frame measures 48"W x 62"L x 3.5"D.
