Thomas L. McKenney Sketches of a Tour to the Lakes, of the Character and Customs of the Chippeway Indians, and of Incidents Connected with the Treaty of Fond Du Lac (Baltimore: Fielding Lucas, 1827), 494 pages, 8vo (6" x 9"), rebound in brown cloth with gold-stamped leather title plate, 5 full-page engravings. An early narrative written in diary form which gives an intimate look at the Great Lakes and the native peoples inhabiting the region. A wonderful full-color lithograph of a Navaho Indian has been used as a frontispiece when the book was rebound. The book block is still tight but the pages bear uniform age toning. The original title page is missing but the narrative is complete. Overall a sound copy of the rare original in very good condition.
