For your consideration in this lot is a very rare 1806 horsehide covered salesman's small trunk. This trunk is made of wood with leather binding and brass tacks, handle, and latch. The inside of the case was covered with paper with blueprint. Inside the lid is a notice that reads, "Thomas Holden, informs his friends and the public generally that he has taken the new Brick House, No.93, Fish Street, where he proposes to keep a very general assortment of SEAMEN’S CLOTHING, together with an assortment of GROCERIES, &c. &c. N.B. Boarding & Lodging may be had on reasonable terms: and trunks of every description made and repaired as above. Boston, Mar 21, 1806". The construction of the trunk is solid. Most of the horsehair is rubbed off the hide and the tongue to the latch broken off, however this trunk is over 210 years old and still a wonderful item! The trunk outside measurements are 15" long by 8" deep and 6 1/2" tall.
