The present painting of a southern city view with river is the work of the German painter Randolf Wehn (1911-1990). It appears to be a small Italian town. The impressionistic painting shows a pasty, relief-like application of color that delights with its subtle nuances and warm atmosphere.



The painting is signed lower right, ‘Randolf When München’. It is overall in good condition with light wear marks. In the upper right part of the painting, there are two small areas of paint losses. The lower left shows a small, restored point, which was patched at the back. The wooden frame has some small chips. The overall dimensions, framed, are 91 x 101.5 cm. The tenter frame measures 71 x 80 cm.



Randolf Wehn (1911-1990)

Randolf Wehn studied in Munich and Venice. From 1936, he was a freelance artist in Munich. He was a member of the Chamber of Visual Arts. When’s oeuvre is attributed to the Late Impressionism. His works are on display in several German ministries. (cko)
