<B>Randall Garrett. Original Typescript for the Short Story "The Price of Eggs."</B></I> 31 pages. 8.5" x 11". Ribbon copy. Dated June 10, 1955. Liberally hand-annotated with printing instructions and corrections. First page toned with ghosted outline of small typed story excerpt on Ziff-Davis letterhead. Stamped received date in upper right corner of first page. Binding hole in upper right corner. Small chips and bends on a few pages. Old fold crease down the center. Very good condition overall.<BR><BR>"The Price of Eggs" was first published in <I>Fantastic</B></I> magazine in December 1959. Garrett originally titled the story "The Measure of a Man", a quote from Plutarch's <I>Consolation to Apollonius</B></I> but an editor, or perhaps Garrett himself has penciled out the original title and written "The Price of Eggs" over it. Also, Garrett originally wrote the story using one of his pseudonyms, David Gordon, which likewise has been marked with the editor's delete mark. <BR><BR>Accompanying this rare manuscript are the original proofs from its first appearance in <I>Fantastic</B></I> magazine.
