Ramona Fradon and Charles Paris - Metamorpho #2 page 1 Original Art (DC, 1965). From the wild, wacky, wonderful way-out era of the swinging sixties comes Bob Haney's "Fab Freak of 1,000 and One Changes." Metamorpho the Element Man was a "normal, green-blooded, all-American freak,"and this spectacular splash page by Ramona Fradon and Charlie Paris spotlights the entire cast of characters -- Rex Mason, fated to became Metamorpho; Simon Stagg, the terrible tycoon; Sapphire Stagg, Rex's gal-pal; Java, the living throw-back in man's evolutionary chain; and this issue's villain, Nicholas Balkan. Telstar was all the rage back in the day; the Tornados had a hit 1962 rock instrumental with that title, and Bob Haney must have jumped in on the Space Race craze! Although not the first communications satellite, Telstar is the best known and it ushered in the era of satellite communications. Telstar I was launched on July 10, 1962, and on that day, live television pictures originating in the United States were received in France. The image area of the splash is 13" x 17.5". The splash retains its original type and stats, there are a few paste-on and taped-in lettering corrections; otherwise the art is in Excellent condition. Metamorpho art is scarcely offered in the marketplace, and an art collector would certainly have a hard time topping this magnificent splash -- snap it up!
