Ralph Waldo Emerson. A.L.S., Concord (M
Ralph Waldo Emerson. A.L.S., Concord (Mass.), 9 Dec. 1859, 2 -1/2 pp., darkly penned. American essayist, poet, minister, lecturer, abolitionist, and integral member of the Transcendentalists. Letter to Mr. Christy. "It has taken a longer time than I believed necessary to settle my place & time-table for my Western journey. Yet for a week or two...it has settled itself into tolerable practicality, and I might to have written you certain that the day when I can best come to Yellow Springs (Ohio) is Wednesday, 1 February. You seem to prefer Saturday, but I haven't been able to manage it so, have to be at Toledo Jan. 30, Zanesville 31, Cincinnati Feb. 2: so that Wed.1st, I hope, will not be inconvenient to you. If there be any conflicting engagement of that day, be so good as to inform me. R.W. Emerson." Penned in a bold hand. Outstanding example of one of America's great writers.
