TLS signed “R. A. Cram,” one page, 8.25 x 11, Cram and Ferguson letterhead, February 23, 1923. Letter to Gordon Ireland in New Haven, in part: "While I cannot quote any rule promulgated by the Congregation of Rites, still I know it to be a fact that the Catholic Church absolutely prohibits the building of any secular structure or apartment over an altar. This is in order to provide against anything approaching the idea of sacrilege. I should suppose the only area of a chancel which was protected after this fashion would be the sanctuary itself, that is to say, the altar and its immediate environment. I think there is no law that prevents building over a church auditorium or even over the choir of a church, but the sanctuary must absolutely be held apart, with no room of any kind over it." In very good to fine condition, with some light creasing, two file holes, and an erased sketch in an unknown hand in the bottom blank area.
