250-3000 Savage caliber, 22" round barrel with machine raised rib, serial number 184078 inlaid in gold. Integral rear sight machined into the rib. Front sight has been machined into the raised rib with gold bead blade insert fixed to ramp. Rear marble tang sight. Barrel marked Savage High Pressure Steel Model 1899 flanked by two reverse stylized trumpets. Top of rib is matted. Barrel with scroll engravings at the breech. Fully engraved frame covered with ornate scroll work, the right side with a raised gold center panel showing a standing bull elk and cow. Left side of the frame has a center panel showing two raised gold tigers in stalking position and very well detailed. The bottom of frame shows the raised gold monogram J.F.D. All screw heads are engraved and gold plated including the takedown button. The barrel and frame are finished in high polished blue. The breech bolt carrier is hand-jeweled. The top of the breech bolt is matted and relief engraved, also with hand-jeweled sides. The lever is engraved and cased colored. The pistol gripped stock and forearm are of highly select figured walnut both exquisitely deep relief carved with leaf and vine motifs and beautifully stippled background. The pistol grip cap is made of mother of pearl and the steel buttplate is engraved and gold plated.

This superb Savage rifle was specially made for John F. Dodge, co-founder of the Dodge Automobile Company. Without a doubt, it is the finest Savage rifle ever made.


Condition: Barrel retains ca 99% of its original blue finish. The entire frame retains 100% of its original blue finish with the lever retaining ca 98% original case colors. Buttstock and forearm show all of their original oil finish with only a minute trace of scratches on the buttstock. The engraved buttplate retains 100% of the original gold plating as well as all the screws.
