<B>Railroad Executive George Jay Gould Autograph Letter Signed</B></I> "<I>George J Gould</B></I>". Two pages, 5" x 6.5", "On Board Atalanta" foldover lettersheet, September 1, 1896, to L Maddocks. Sending regrets for an invitation, Gould writes, in part: "<I>...to take a drive with your committee over your beautiful town...I could not very well leave the ship. I hope sometime to have the pleasure of being at Boothbay and enjoying the beautiful scenery of your harbor...</B></I>" The <I>Atalanta</B></I> was Gould's steam yacht and Boothbay Harbor is in Maine. Gould, the son of financier Jay Gould, was a railroad executive heading both the Denver and Rio Grande Western and the Western Pacific Railroads.
