Engine classification lamp by Pyle National Company with two, ~5.5-inch diameter, Fresnel lenses with green filters inside behind each lens, all in a cast-iron spherical body. The filters are raised and lowered simultaneously by two levers, one lever beside each lens. Classification lamps were used in pairs, one on each side of the front of the train, to indicate to the railroad crew on the ground what type of train was headed toward them. Unlit lamp indicated a scheduled trainches White lamps meant an unscheduled trainches Green lamps meant a train that was too long has been broken up into separate segments, each segment with its own locomotive showing green classification lamps. This lamp has two mounting brackets so that it could be mounted on either side of the engine and still face forward. Access to the bulb inside is made easy by undoing a thumb screw at the base and flipping over the globe to one side. I could not get it to light up, so some rewiring may be needed.
