Raemaekers' War Cartoons. Two-volume set of W
Raemaekers' War Cartoons. Two-volume set of World War I cartoons by the famous Dutch-German artist Louis Raemaekers. So inflammatory were these cartoons that the German government offered a reward of 12,000 guilders for Raemaekers, dead or alive. Deluxe edition by Century, 1917, no. 382 of limited edition of 1,050 copies, with foreword by Theodore Roosevelt. Frontispiece in color, about 125 plates in black and white. Plates 10 x 12 on 13 x 18 leaves, deckle-edge paper; text on facing page; the complete volumes oversize 14 x 19. Gold trim on heavy covers; unusual oversize signature of the artist gold-stamped on both white fabric covers. One sentence in book curiously underlined in red. Light cover soiling, else fine. A choice example of the genre, the masterful drawings having eloquent effect.
