Raeburn Van Buren - Abbie and Slats Sunday Comic Strip Original Art, dated 4-4-48 (United Features Syndicate, 1948). Breathless Groggins seemed to have sealed his own fate, when he took a disguise and advised his foe, Hagstone, to "kill me with kindness." A gorgeous "good girl" pops in on panel seven and adds a little beauty to the comedy. Raeburn Van Buren's talent for figure drawing shines in this droll Sunday. Abbie an' Slats began as an offshoot project for Al Capp, of Lil' Abner fame in 1937; he scripted the strip until 1945, and then his brother, Elliot Caplin, took over. Abbie and Slats ran until 1971, and it proved to be a popular strip, especially with rural readers. The image area of the strip measures 22.5" x 15", and the art is in Excellent condition.
