Baseball Hall of Famer. During his 23-year career as an infielder (1912-1935), mostly with the Boston Braves, he established many fielding records with his colorful play, including most lifetime putouts by a shortstop (5,133). Vintage fountain pen signature, “Yours in sports, Rabbit Maranville,” on a 5.5 x 2.75 blue card from the Albert R. Chestnut collection. A couple of small ink smudges, otherwise fine condition. From his Pennsylvania home, Chestnut, a printer by profession, began collecting autographs in 1935. He sent these personally-printed cards to over a thousand celebrities and received favorable replies from the vast majority, finally retiring from collecting to raise his family when postage increased from 2¢ per card!
