Your commentary is to be congratulated...It is every way creditable, and very useful as an example to other Commentaries. I am ? to send you a bunch of Soldier pamphlets &c but am not sure that you are making a Collection - a Library of such matters..." "Glimpses of the Nation's Struggle" was written by Chaplin Edward D Neill, and was a compilation of stories about the Civil War. Hayes had been badly wounded at South Mountain during the buildup to the battle of Antietam (Sept 17, 1862), while serving in the 23rd Ohio Volunteers. Minor soiling, o/w VG. $400-600
