<B>RUTH MONRO AUGUR (1886-1967)</B></I><BR>Untitled Mural Study Communication and Travel<BR>Oil on canvas stretched over plywood<BR>20in. x 49 3/4in.<BR>Signed lower right<BR><BR>This painting was probably executed as a mural study for a WPA post office or public building. The theme is communication and travel. The mural is composed of four vignettes.<BR><BR>The first shows communications and travel of the Indians. Within the scene is an Indian traveling by canoe, an Indian runner, and Indians sending a message via smoke signal.<BR><BR>The second vignette shows travel and communications of the Spanish explorers via galleon and what was then an innovation to the Americas, the horse.<BR><BR>The third vignette shows both Paul Revere as well as an American clipper ship.<BR><BR>The fourth vignette shows a Mississippi riverboat, a western stage coach, and a Pony Express rider.<BR><BR>Provenance:<BR>Estate of Ruth Monro Augur<BR>Acquired from the above by the present owner<BR><BR> <B>Condition Report:</B> Excellent condition.
