(RUSSIAN WAR HERO GROUPING)
Personnel file of Hero of the Soviet Union, Lt. Gen. Vladimir Matveevick Tkachenko, housed in a thick, red cloth bound file with gold lettering and a Soviet star. Within are four D.S.'s by VASILI I. CHUIKOV (1900 - 1982), Russian general who was an essential planner and director of the battle of Stalingrad, his forces headed the spearhead to Berlin, where he had the honor of receiving the surrender of the city from General Krebs; one D.S. signed by GEORGI ZHUKOV (1896 - 1974), Soviet Field Marshal, perhaps the greatest general of World War II, he survived crushing poverty and Stalin's purges to command the Russian armies at the monumental battles of Moscow and Kursk, and in the taking of Berlin; one D.S. signed by KONSTANTIN ROKOSSOVSKY (1896 - 1968), Soviet general who held the critical northwest approaches to Moscow, later headed defenses at Stalingrad and near the end of the war encircled and destroyed the German 4th Army; as well as five photos of Tkachenko, two evaluations, military oath, archive copies of military decrees, his complete service record, and so on. An impossible grouping to find, overall very good.
