(RUSSIAN SPACECRAFT EQUIPMENT)
An interesting Russian space relic, a modular global positioning unit from the Soyuz spacecraft for mission TM-29 to the Mir Space Station from Feb. to Oct. 1999. The device features a rotating globe which kept track of the subsatellite position of the spacecraft while in orbit. The gauge also dept track of latitude and longitude and some other unspecified functions better explained by a pilot. The globe features various radar stations and as well what appear to be landing areas numbered one through nine. Curiously while most of the landing areas are within Russia, there is one located in Nicaragua and another at Cape Breton Island. Positioning gauges like these were used at least until the 1970s on Soyuz spacecraft. With a certificate for the piece issued by International Public Charitable Foundation for Support of Russian Cosmonauts. Bottom right portion at rear is dented, but otherwise the instrument appears to be in good shape and (as far as we can tell with our limited recourses) operational. A very interesting space collectible.
