RUGGLES, DANIEL
(1810 - 1897) Confederate brigadier general who led a corps at Shiloh, later serving under Bragg, Van Dorn, and Joseph E. Johnston. A.D.S. signed four times, 2pp. 4to., [n.p.], Aug. 2, 1879, a fair copy of a war-date letter Ruggles sent to fellow Gen, Patton Anderson. In part: "…Take your ambulances and ammunition wagons, with an officer in charge of them, 40 rounds of cartridges in boxes, one blanket, canteen, and haversack with 2 days cooked rations. Leave small camp guard. Preserve silence in marching…". Notes indicate that the original of this order was penned on April 5th, but no year is indicated. Light, uneven damping to first page, a few soiled spots on verso, overall good to very good.
