Pseudonym of English-born Soviet spy William August Fisher convicted in 1957 for conspiring to transmit US military secrets to the Soviet Union. He was exchanged in 1962 for American U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers who had been imprisoned in Soviet Union since 1960. Signed original engraving, b/w, approx 3"x2¼" on card, overall 6"x4" winter scene of house and forest in background. Signed in bold pencil at bottom of engraving. Top edge trimmed; o/w Fine example. After his exchange for Powers, Abel taught at the KGB Academy. His hobby was engravings. He made many of them, especially as illustrations for spy novels. Rare.</span></p>

1. Auction Catalogue No. 19 is a Mail, Fax, Phone, Email and
Internet Live Bid Auction and is conducted under the laws of the State
of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License
No. 002.
2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.

6. In the event of duplicate high bids, the earliest bid received
