RUBY, JACK
(1911 - 1967) Dallas nightclub owner who shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald following Oswald's assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. An interesting A.L.S. 2pp. 12mo., ""County Jail"" [Dallas], Dec. 29, 1963, in pencil to ""Dear Smitty & wife"". Just a month after his murder of Lee Harvey Oswald, Ruby writes in full: "" Thank for you so much for your prayers and kind thoughts. May God Bless You Both and yours for a wonderful 1964 of health and happiness. I always wondered what had happened to both of you. Your Christmas card was one of the nicest I've received, and I shall always treasure it close to my heart, your expressions and feelings for me still; have given me quite a lift in spirit and faith. Some day God willing I hope we may get a chance to meet again. If by chance you have a snapshot, please mail same to me. With kindest regards, always. Jack Ruby"". With holograph envelope. The letter and envelope are affixed to black paper backing with bits of tape at right and left margins, easily removed. In an interesting footnote, the ""Smiths"" were Mickey and ""E.E."". Mickey served on the Dallas Police Department and met his wife at Ruby's Silver Spur bar in Dallas on a ladies' night. Ruby introduced the two, who later married and were treated royally by Ruby who gave the couple free admission and champagne when the couple celebrated their anniversary at the Silver Spur. The above is attested to in three letters, included, sent by Mrs. Smith to the consignor. She also notes that her Christmas card resulted in her investigation by the FBI, and she further states that this Ruby letter was photographed for inclusion in the Report of the Warren Commission. A great lot, containing Ruby's letter and envelope, with four letters of provenance and the original mailer.
