ROYAL WARRANTS
A collection of four gilt framed Royal Warrants, with red wax seals, in favour of Mr William Roughead of Edinburgh, stock and shirt maker (also decsribed as hosier and glover) from William IV, Prince Albert, etc. Two frames surmounted by gilt coronets, and one with a fleur de lys. 1835, 1838, 1849 & 1863 [4]
Note: William Roughead is listed in contemporary directories as at 24 Princes Street, Edinburgh, and gained his first Royal Warrant in 1835. On the death of William
IV, he gained a further warrant to the Royal Household, and thereafter to Prince Albert. In 1847 he moved to 69 Princes St., and in the 1860s his son John, who had been operating a separate business in George St., appears to have joined him, with the firm continuing to enjoy royal patronage, obtaining a warrant from the Prince of Wales in 1863.
