Kearsley, 1794FIRST LONDON EDN,pp(4),163,(1,blank),with half-title,8vo,recent wraps: very good. An edition not in O'Higgins. Rowan (1751-1834), United Irishman, imprisoned for an allegedly seditious address to the Volunteers in 1794, escaped after he was dangerously compromised by the Rev William Jackson, going first to France where he became friendly with Mary Wollstonecraft and then to Philadelphia. Disenchanted with revolutionary politics following the French Terror, he accepted a pardon in 1803 and settled in Co Down. He was, incidentally, one of the first persons to whom Shelley addressed himself on his memorable visit to Dublin in 1812.ENGLISH PRE 1801; TRIAL; IRELAND; LAW; UNITED IRISHMEN; HISTORY; ; ; ; ; ;
