ROSEWOOD SIDECHAIR IN THE "TUTHILL KING" PATTERN ATTRIBUTED TO JOHN HENRY BELTER NYC. High back chair has tall crest with cornucopia of flowers ending in grape clusters. Curved scroll decoration with grape leaves, clusters, and acorns. Serpentine front with carved rose decoration. French style cabriole legs supported by brass caster feet. Upholstered in red brocade flower decorated material with tufted back. Top crest has three large carved roses, other Tuthill design has two roses. Also, slight difference in carving above and below the oval back. Reference pictured page 101 "American Furniture of the 19th Century" 1840-1880 by Richard and Eileen Dubrow. SIZE: 37 1/2"h x 21"w.
